🔥 Flares (Ages 10–13)

Adventure. Voice. Identity. This is where it ignites.

Flares is the third stage of Emberlin — a bold, brilliant space for 10–13-year-olds to challenge themselves, express who they are, and lead their own adventures. It’s a place where fun meets independence, creativity meets confidence, and every young person is supported to grow into who they want to be.

At this age, they’re not little anymore — and we treat them like the powerful thinkers, leaders and doers they’re becoming.

What Flares Get Up To

Each weekly session is dynamic, youth-led, and packed with opportunities to explore, experiment, and grow. A typical month might include:

  • Hosting their own group discussion or themed night

  • Collaborating on creative projects — film, podcasting, design, drama

  • Running a cooking challenge, debating hot topics, or planning a local action campaign

  • Building skills through problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership games

  • Exploring the world through culture, global citizenship, or outdoor adventure

We don’t just tell them what to do — we give them the tools, trust, and encouragement to decide how they want to lead.

Focused on Growth (But Still a Lot of Fun)

At Flares, young people start to form deeper identities. Our programme supports that by:

  • Encouraging self-awareness, respect, and healthy boundaries

  • Helping them articulate their ideas, opinions, and values

  • Building confidence in public speaking, collaboration, and problem-solving

  • Preparing them for real-world challenges with life-ready skills

Each session is run by our experienced, paid facilitators — not volunteers — so young people get consistency, guidance, and role models they can look up to.

Why Parents Love Flares

Flares is where young people grow into themselves — with support, structure and the freedom to explore. Parents tell us they see:

  • Improved confidence, maturity and resilience

  • Stronger communication skills and emotional awareness

  • A willingness to step up, take responsibility and help others

  • Excitement to return — even if they “pretend” to be too cool for it!

We blend freedom with framework, giving families peace of mind and young people a place to thrive.

Uniforms, Projects & Pride

Flares can wear the Emberlin uniform with pride, and will soon have access to achievement badges across skill, community, creativity, and leadership categories.

In 2026, we’ll be introducing Flare-led projects — term-long creative or impact-focused challenges that end in a showcase, presentation or trip.

These are designed to give our Flares real responsibility, real pride, and real-world experience.

From Flare to Fire

At the end of their Flare journey, young people can graduate into Fires (14–18) — the final, most independent stage of Emberlin. But here, in Flares, they discover their spark, build their voice, and take their first step toward becoming changemakers.

This is where they stop following — and start leading.
